CORTEN STEEL, “THE METAL THAT LIVES”
Biofireplace Fuecopared thought about a particular frame for an exclusive model, “IMPRUNETA”, combining functionality and aesthetics with the heat of the terracotta of its fireplaces.
The great success of the corten steel is certainly due to its ability to “self-protect”.
This metal, in fact, during the oxidation process, covers itself by a patina composed by a porous outer layer and a very thin inner layer, full of copper, chromium and phosphorus, that is amorphous and waterproof.
Its color varies from an initial orange to a reddish-brown coloration which is commonly called “rust”, a protective coating that fits to the most varied design solutions.
Not only: if this patina is scratched, the oxidation process restarts up to build a new protection.
This is why corten is a material that “lives and self-protects”.
